Therapy Dog’s Use at Trial Is Challenged

Since most people like dogs, a defense attorney argued before a New York appellate court, the prosecution had an unfair advantage in a trial where a 15-year-old sexual assault victim testified with a therapy dog sitting by her side and comforting her as the stress ratcheted up. In the dog's evident sympathy toward the witness, the attorney argued, it became a kind of unsworn witness.
