Landing a Small-Firm Job Took Something Extra

August 19, 2009

Bruce Weisenberg earned his J.D. in May 2008 and started a job search that eventually involved what he calls a carpet-bombing strategy. His cover letter caught the eye of Arif Virji, managing partner of 16-lawyer Lynch, Gilardi & Grummer, based on Weisenberg's MBA and business experience, which helped Weisenberg land a job. His story illustrates how some small law firms, particularly in a recession, need something extra beyond academic training before making an investment in a freshly minted law graduate.
