Kirkland Partner Slapped With Dismissal and Judge’s Rebuke for Filing Misstep
Kirkland & Ellis partner Barry Irwin filed a lawsuit on behalf of a gaming client against talk show celebrity Montel Williams over a poker venture gone sour, only to see the case dismissed a mere 48 hours later, along with some judicial finger-wagging and a potential fine. In the dismissal, U.S. District Judge Milton Shadur chided Irwin for a jurisdictional misstep that he said the lawyer should have known about, given a decade's worth of related appellate rulings and the resources of a big firm like Kirkland.
