Foster Care, Court Funding Top the Docket for Fla. High Court’s New Chief
Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Peggy Quince becomes the first black woman to head a branch of the state government as she takes over from Justice R. Fred Lewis. Quince says that during her two-year term she plans to advocate full funding of courts and examine ways to improve the prospects for children aging out of the foster care system. She says her first goal is "to make sure, in this economic climate that we find ourselves in, that the court is fully funded to carry out our constitutional mandate."
